Who’s in the band (and what do they play?

Casey(Drums) Mariah (Bass) Jo (Guitar)

When and how did you become a band?

Jo celebrated her 35th birthday with the goals of connecting with more women, learning to play guitar, and starting a rock n’ roll band. After talking with friends and soon-to-be-friends, it was a natural start. We went out for Indian food in late 2010, picked instruments that we had never payed before, and signed up to figure it out together. M and C had known each other for over a decade since meeting at 4th St. when they were little babies (and their old bands used to play together). Jo loved CD too, so, like a champ, Casey jumped in on drums when Erin B flew the coop for the west coast.

How did you decide on your band name?

Many, many long lists and back and forths….One of our original members, Erin Bratkovich, had just finished John Waters’ book Role Models and was moved by Leslie Van Houten’s story as a sister in The Manson Family. As one of the Manson Family who has clearly processed the atrocity and complexity of her involvement with the murders, Leslie’s story is a pretty amazing reminder of our abilities as humans to be insightful, to change, to get lost, to heal, to endure, and to educate ourselves. Its also a blatant reminder if how screwed up the prison system is.

You’re playing BFF Fest!  Thank you!  Any goals for the day?

To listen to rad music, be inspired, and have a super fun time.

What do you want everyone to know about your band?

Sometimes the best reason to start a band is really just because you want to mess around with/learn something and/or have an excuse to hang out with some solid people/bandmates.
