When and how did you become a band?
2010. Nisa wanted to learn to play drums so she sat and banged on a kit while I played old acoustic songs plugged in and amplified. It sounded too good, so we kept doing it and added a “wild girl” Nisa knew of named Ashley to add some bass. In about a month’s time we had a handful of songs and flung ourselves into playing shows, recording and acting like rockstars.
How did you decide on your band name?
We threw around a lot of awful names before Nisa’s ex cheer career came up in conversation and we had an epiphany.
Tell us about your first show.
Well, the first show was my birthday party at my house. Only Nisa and myself wound up playing because Ashley got arrested and spent the night in jail. After that we got it together (sort of) and played Woobies (RIP), a shitty local venue with awful sound that wasn’t helped in any way by our trash can gear and my 30 watt Marshall practice amp.
Can you describe your music?
What bands (or other things) are your influences/inspiration?
Beyonce. The blues. The Riot Grrrl movement. Allison Mosshart. Everything Jack White touches. Punk mf rock. Nirvana.
Gear talk: instruments/pedals/amps
Fender 60’s style reissue strat with a muddy, dirty, big ole Marshall cab.
Ashley is on a short necked Gretch. Loudness comes from a Fender Rumble 350 and she runs a Big Muff pedal.
Who are your favorite local bands? And what’s the scene like in Flint?
Our sister band, Sweat, is our jam. DSMD is good. The scene is trying.
What do you want everyone to know about your band?
That we out here.
